The Best Natural, Clean, Non-Toxic Deodorants without Aluminum

There are so many deodorants on the market today, however, so many of them contain aluminum, parabens, and other potentially harmful ingredients. In 2021, there was a recall on some deodorant brands that contained benzene (which is classified as a human carcinogen). Due to these alarming facts, I have made a personal decision to switch to a non-toxic deodorant.
When I look for clean products, I like to browse on the Environmental Working Group (EWG) website. For those of you who don’t know, the EWG rates personal care products on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 represents the cleanest and 10 indicates the most toxic products. The cleanest products are EWG Verified. Although I use the EWG as a guide to find clean products, I do not follow it blindly. I have found some harmful ingredients in products that have had great EWG ratings. With that said, I always go through the ingredients as well to make sure the product is actually clean.
Below is my list of natural deodorants. I’ve listed their ingredients so you can also see what is in them. Hopefully, you can find a deodorant that works for you!
1. Earthley Wellness Mineral Deodorant
EWG Rating: 1
This non-toxic deodorant has very clean ingredients including organic mango butter, magnesium chloride flakes, arrowroot powder, candelilla wax, and organic apricot oil. It also contains some essential oils if you decide to get a scented deodorant. They have many different scents available.
The magnesium chloride helps to naturally detoxify your pits and reduce odor. The apricot oil and mango butter help to nourish sensitive skin and the arrowroot powder helps to keep you dry. There is no baking soda, in this deodorant. Baking soda has never personally irritated me when it is in natural deodorants, but it can be irritating for some people. 2. Bubble and Bee Pit Putty Organic Deodorant
EWG Rating: No Rating, but very clean ingredients
The ingredients in this non-toxic deodorant are as follows: organic arrowroot powder, organic coconut oil, baking soda (no aluminum), and organic lilac scent extract (in organic sunflower oil). They have many different scents that have different extracts/essential oils, but all their deodorants (and all their products) are completely clean.
This deodorant has arrowroot powder to keep you dry and just a touch of baking soda. Baking soda raises the pH of the underarm so it’s less hospitable to odor-causing bacteria. The baking soda in these deodorants are less than a 5% concentration so it’s not irritating on skin.
Are you a heavy sweater? Bubble and Bee recommends pairing this stick deodorant with a deodorant cream as well. They work together as a great pair for individuals who sweat a lot. You can also reapply the stick throughout the day as needed. They also recommend pairing a cream and a stick together if you are prone to underarm rashes.
Are you really stinky? They also have a product called pit primer. It’s like a shower in a bottle. It deodorizes on contact and can be applied anywhere on the body to neutralize odor. Apply the pit primer to a clean cotton pad or ball and wipe the area thoroughly to remove odors. Let the area dry and apply deodorant.
3. Little Seed Farm All Natural Deodorant Cream
EWG Rating: 1
This non-toxic deodorant has organic arrowroot or tapioca powder, magnesium hydroxide, caprylic/capric triglyceride, organic jojoba oil, organic beeswax, glycerin, and different essential oils for each scent. They also have an unscented version as well.
This clean deodorant is free from baking soda and aluminum. It’s also certified cruelty-free, non-GMO, gluten-free, and is made without parabens or synthetic fragrances. This is a cream deodorant that comes with a free wooden scoop stick. You can apply it with your fingers or with a bamboo applicator that they sell separately. It’s also made in the USA.
4. Life Stinks Extra Strength Lavender Travel Deodorant

This natural deodorant only contains 3 ingredients: aluminum-free sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), lavandula angustifolia (lavender), and melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree). That’s all.
This non-toxic deodorant is a powder. Simply shake out a small amount into the palm of your hand and apply it to your underarms. It is fragrance-free, talc-free, and completely toxin-free. They also sell refillable bags as well that are cost-effective and last the whole year. If you need extra protection, this company sells a stink stick. They say to apply the stink stick before applying the powder.
5. Humble All Natural Deodorant, Mountain Lavender

This safe and clean non-toxic deodorant contains 4 clean ingredients: caprylic/capric triglyceride (MCT), non-GMO zea mays (corn) starch, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and cera alba (beeswax) plus essential oils for a variety of scents.
It’s made without aluminum, alcohol, dyes, parabens, or artificial fragrances. It’s certified cruelty-free by the Leaping Bunny Certification Program (the international gold standard for non-animal tested consumer products) and its containers are made from 75% recycled plastic.
6. Truvani Organic Aluminum Free Deodorant – USDA Organic Deodorant for Women and Men

The ingredients in this deodorant are as follows: Organic tapioca starch, organic MCT oil, organic coconut oil, organic arrowroot powder, organic beeswax, organic shea butter, sodium bicarbonate, organic orange oil, organic lemon oil, organic bergamot oil, organic sunflower oil, organic rosemary extract.
This safe deodorant is USDA Certified Organic. It’s free of parabens and other harsh chemicals. It’s also free of aluminum and it’s non-GMO. It’s a great pick for a natural and clean deodorant!
7. Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve Coconut Stick Deodorant Lemongrass & Tea Tree

The ingredients for this deodorant are as follows: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil; Organic Virgin Shea Butter; Organic Cornstarch; Organic Beeswax; Organic Jojoba Oil; Baking Soda; Organic Essential Oils: Lemongrass and Tea Tree; and Organic Rosemary Oil Extract.
This organic non-toxic deodorant is made with essential oils and coconut oil which helps neutralize underarm odor by their natural antibacterial properties. It also contains organic cornstarch that helps act as an antiperspirant by absorbing underarm moisture as well as baking soda. The scent is clean (just like its ingredients!)
8. Earth Mama Ginger Fresh Deodorant

It’s made for everyone including teens, pregnant & breastfeeding women, and especially anyone with sensitive skin. It comes in eco-smart containers to increase decomposition after being disposed of in landfills. Do you prefer a different scent? There are many options and all of them are clean as well.
