The Best Clean Conditioners

The time has come to make a switch to a clean conditioner. So what makes a conditioner clean? Well, many ingredients in personal care products can negatively affect your health. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has done extensive research and states that certain ingredients in products can cause allergies, immune system problems, cancer, and reproductive and fetal toxicities, just to name a few. That doesn’t sound like anything I want to be mixed up in. That’s why I decided to make the switch to clean products and you should too.

How do you know if a conditioner is clean? The best way is to look through all the ingredients. Apps and websites are helpful in finding clean products, but to be absolutely sure, looking directly at the ingredients is the best way. One helpful website is the EWG. The EWG rates products with 1 being the cleanest and 10 being the most toxic. They even go one step further and rate products “EWG Verified” which means that they are the cleanest products. I have found some products that have good ratings that still have ingredients in them that I wouldn’t use, so while I use the EWG as a guide, I still check the ingredients.

Luckily, I made it easy for you and made a list of great non-toxic and natural conditioners for your hair. These natural conditioners can be used for the whole family. Also, if a product is meant for babies or kids and you want to use it on yourself, please use it. There aren’t that many clean products out there so I have no issues using kid products on myself.

(If you check out the reviews, it seems like many adults feel the same way!) This clean conditioner is made with 100% plant-based and ethically sourced ingredients and it’s made without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, petroleum, artificial fragrances, and gluten. It’s hypoallergenic and also great at detangling. If you decide to use this on your baby or child, it is tear-free. In addition, this natural conditioner is vegan and PETA-approved. Another great choice for a clean conditioner.

Customer reviews say that this organic conditioner helps their hair and leaves it feeling like healthy hair. Being a customer myself, I agree! I use this and love it.

5. Organic Conditioner by Herbal Choice Mari

EWG Rating: No rating, but I looked through all the ingredients and it looks great!

This USDA organic, non-toxic conditioner is made with apple cider vinegar (which is great to put on your hair if you use natural shampoo because of its pH), extra virgin olive oil, shea butter, rosehip oil, and organic vodka. That’s right, it says vodka. Like apple cider vinegar, vodka is also good for your hair’s pH. In addition, it will help with frizzy hair and an itchy scalp. It’s free from cocamidopropyl betaine, hydroxypropyltrimonium, parabens, synthetic dyes and fragrances, PEG, ceteareth, and polyethylene. This light conditioner is suitable for normal to dry hair, chemically sensitive scalp and for color-treated hair and henna users.
